An American scientist before retiring announced his plan to colonize Mars. He believes that a protective screen will help restore the atmosphere on the planet.
Former chief scientist at NASA Jim Green suggested building a giant magnetic screen around the Red Planet. It would block high energy solar particles. And thus it will not allow the star to destroy the atmosphere of Mars. About this writes the Daily Mail.
The scientist has suggested that through this, the planet will create a climate favorable to humans. The scientist has called this process terraformation. Temperatures will rise, pressure will grow. This will allow plants to grow on Mars.
Jim Green said that he has been working on his project for the past five years. Now he has decided to make it public because he has finished his job at NASA and retired. He recalled that the atmosphere disappeared on Mars with the influx of solar particles. This phenomenon destroyed 90 percent of the Red Planet's atmosphere.
If Mars is closed off from the Sun, the temperature will rise to a point that will allow the CO2 coating on the polar cap to turn into gas and return to the atmosphere. And that would intensify the greenhouse effect.
It would also release water hidden deep beneath the surface. At least a seventh of the ancient ocean would return to Mars. In the long run, all the water from deep within the planet would be released.
Green suggests creating a dipole field. A pair of equal and oppositely charged magnets should be placed in orbit between Mars and the Sun, at a point known as Mars L1. The planet would be in the "magnetospheric tail" and would be protected from the harsh solar wind. The climate will stabilize in just two years.
